  • E006: Cupfighters

    E006: Cupfighters

In this episode of Vorst Case Scenario, Justus hosts Anna, Arif and Giovanni for a wide-ranging conversation about Union’s season beyond the first team. The episode opens with the U23s, who have had an impressive season in the third league and are still in with a chance of topping their relegation play-off group.
From there the conversation turns to Union’s women’s team, and the frustration around the club’s lack of communication and visibility for the female side. The recent success of Leuven women — who qualified for the Champions League in their first European season and sold out Denderleeuw against Arsenal — serves as an example of what investment and visibility can achieve.
The episode then addresses a troubling incident after the U23 derby victory over Crossing Schaerbeek, where Union fans were attacked leaving the ground due to a lack of fan separation — a theme that feeds directly into concerns about the upcoming Cup Final at Heysel, where no separation plan was in place at the time of recording.
The Heysel discussion broadens into a longer conversation about Union’s stadium future at Bempt, the renovation potential at Heyzel, and what a new or expanded ground could mean for the club’s identity and ambitions. We are closing with reflections on the Cup Final itself — is it a home game, an away game, or neutral? And a reminder: come in yellow on Thursday!

  • Go sit outside on the stairs!

Go sit outside on the stairs!

In this episode of Vorst Case Scenario, Justus, Anna, Arif and Giovanni discuss the state of Union’s season as the Champions’ Play-offs get underway. Giovanni, a Saint-Gilles resident and Union fan since the Covid season of 2020, joins the regular hosts to take stock of where the club stands.
The episode opens with the impact of the winter arrivals: Biondic and Zeneli have both hit the ground running in impressive fashion, while Guillaume has stepped up effectively to cover for the injured Niang. The squad depth conversation leads naturally into the injury picture, with Roel also sidelined and Lestienne’s reliability under discussion.
From there the conversation turns to the McAllister red card against Cercle and the Burgess interview that followed — was the red card justified, and should players be speaking out about refereeing standards? The group also looks ahead to the Cup Final with a mix of excitement and nerves, before closing on a lighter note: Union’s move away from Nike to Irish kit manufacturer O’Neill’s, and what that might mean for shirt availability, design quality and the club’s identity going forward.
